We are committed to helping your reusable goods and materials benefit one or more of the thousands of under-funded schools and nonprofit organizations throughout the city of Los Angeles.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, L.A. SHARES has redistributed over $180 million worth of items to over 4,000 needy and deserving schools and nonprofits.

Donor Benefits

In addition to the obvious philanthropic benefit that your donation will bring, your company will also gain:

  • A tax deduction letter from L.A. SHARES, a 501(c)3 organization, stating the value of your donation as provided by you.
  • Individual "Thank You" letters from the nonprofit or school that received your contribution with information on how the donated items are being used.
  • A no-cost, environmentally sound method for disposal of unwanted goods and materials.
  • A free charitable arm (that's us, L.A. SHARES) to facilitate every aspect of your donation.

Donor Guidelines

L.A. SHARES strives to make the donation process simple and efficient for donors with an online system that is used to submit your donation items.

After your donation items are submitted, an L.A. SHARES representative will process your donation, contact you if any items cannot be accepted, and work to match your items with a school or nonprofit in need.

Once your donation is matched, you and the recipient organization are both notified by email and the recipient organization will contact you directly by email and/or telephone in order arrange a pick up date and time that is convenient for you. After your donation is picked up, a tax deduction letter is issued by L.A. SHARES.

Please note that most donated items are matched with qualified schools and nonprofits within 3-5 business days, although we cannot guarantee an exact date as timing can vary depending on a number of factors including item size, location, and current Recipient need.

In addition to a tax deduction letter, you will also receive a "Thank You" letter from the recipient organization your donation was awarded to letting you know how your donation is being utilized.

If you prefer, you can make arrangements to drop off your donation at our Griffith Park Warehouse. Please contact us at donate@lashares.org to set up an appointment time to drop off your donation.

What can we donate?

L.A. SHARES regularly accepts the items listed below, both new and gently-used, as long as they are in good working order. Please be advised that this is ONLY a sample list of the items that we accept. If you would like to donate an item that you do not see listed, please contact us to find out whether we can accept it.

What can’t we donate?

Due to federal, state and local regulations, storage and space constraints, and the demographic we serve, L.A. SHARES can only accept certain goods and materials. In general, we will not accept equipment or furniture that is NOT in good working order in addition to:

  • Food
  • Used Clothing
  • Used Mattresses or Bedding
  • Cubicle Workstations
  • Used Refrigerators
  • Used Washers
  • Used Dryers
  • Used Stoves
  • Paint
  • Construction and Demolition Debris
  • Toxic or Hazardous Materials
